George edward Smitham married a number of times

I am looking for details of my husbands great grand father
the info we have been told is Edward victor (my hubbies grand father) was born in Farnborough, Hants 15. 11. 1899 his father (i later found this is George Edward) was stationed in farnborough in the army he married more than once, so there were half brothers/sisters (of Edward victor). The ones we know are one half and one full sister, who was from the 3rd and last marriage
half sister Elsie Who married Squire Granger
full sister Matilda (Tilly) who married Ernest Heap

I later found George Edward married Ann Isabel late Gillett, formerly Summerson and 2 of her children were Elsie and Sydney Gillet

I am wondering can anyone find the other marriage for George Edward Smitham? I have been unsussful so far

Using freebmd - you need to establish when Ann died and then check freebmd for a remarriage

Have you checked the 1911 for this family to see which children were with them at that time

The free 1911 index shows them living in Keighley Yorkshire

Are you saying that Ann was a second wife and then there was another wife after her?

Or are you saying that there were 2 further marriages after Ann

From what i understand Ann was the last marriage for George. she had been previously married also - to someone Gillett. so Sydney and Elsie are Georges step children
So George must have married twice before if the info i have is correct

George was only born 1869 so would have to be very unlucky to have been married twice before the age of 28 when he married Gillett

I think you are getting confused with the Gillett marriage.  You would need to buy a copy of that certificate to see if George was a bachelor or a widower when he married Gillett

I can't see him in 1891 but if he was in the army - he may have been stationed abroad

Did you see the 1925 marriage above - looks like he married another Ann/Annie

Oh yes sorry you are right, he must have married after Ann Isabel Gillett lady.yes thanks for bringing that to my attention, so there must be another marriage either after or before the Annie Clegg wife. have you been able to find any other marriage for him as i am told he married 3 times

He died in 1943 in Keighley and there are no more marriages for that name between 1925-1943 - see freebmd

He was 56 when he re-married in 1925

Unless information is known as to his alleged third wife - I think somebody is counting the Gillett marriage as a second marriage for George rather than for Ann

As I said above - you would need to buy a copy of the 1897 marriage cert to establish whether he was previously married

Ok, so is there no marriage before Ann Gillett in 1897? Also,  is there any between his marriage to Ann Gillett and Annie Clegg in 1925?. Do you know did ann gillett die and thats why he remarried? and what age was Annie clegg whent hey married?
