Grant Family
« on: Saturday 30 October 10 21:48 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for any info on Bernard Grant who married Elizabeth Pringle.
They lived in Monaghan, but don't know if that's where they married.
I know they had at least 3 children: Annie, Robert, Bernard, but nothing else.
They were RC and maybe married around 1855.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Hi maries163,

There is a Bernard Grant listed on Griffith's Valuation in the townland of Drumass, Parish of Inishkeen, Union of Dundalk, Barony of Farney, County of Monaghan.  There are other Grant's recorded in same area.

May be worth a look:

Cheers,

Janet.

Since they are RC and married before 1864, the marriage will not be included in the civil registers, and you will need to know the parish the marriage took place in. You might be able to establish a possible location within the county by following details of the children's birth. Some of these appear on the extracted records on familysearch :

 Bernard Grant / 12 Apr 1871 / Monaghan / Ref: v 6-2 p 496
parents :  Bernard Grant / Eliza Pringle

You can use the reference details to narrow down the correct BMD index details required to order a birth cert, which will include the place of birth (usually a townland or town).

There's also a Thomas Grant born to parents Bryan Grant &  Elizabeth Pringles in 1867 - could be a transcript error of alternate name for Bernard.

Hi Shane & Janet,
Thank you both for your replies. Will follow up all your suggestions.
Shane, I think the Bryan Grant link may also be right as my great grandfather
was Thomas Grant born around 1867.

Cheers,
Marie

Hi all,
Looking for help with my family again.
I've established Bernard Grant live in Castleblaney, married to Eliza Pringle, and his occupation was a plasterer.
He married Eliza abt. 1856, was RC and i think his parish was Muckno.
I tried to get records from this parish but they are unable to help me.
He had several children including my great grandfather Thomas.
His wife, my gg grandmother Eliza Pringle, died i think abt. 1882.

Would be so grateful if anyone out there could help me as BDM records of Monaghan
are quite difficult to find.

Cheers,
Marie
