Olivers from Tullynaloob to St. Thomas, Ontario

Like most, I suspect, I've had no luck trying to track my family (John Oliver, wife Eliza, son George Fredrick) who lived in the townland of Tullynaloob, Fermanagh (outside Pettigo), and appear to have emmigrated to Canada ca. 1859.  No luck with ship records (I doubt they exist), or Canadian imigration information.  Has anyone had any luck trying to get information on the departure of their ancestors by finding any kind of documentation (other than family bibles) in the region of the family's home?  For example, would there possibly be any record of a family's leaving the area in local newspapers, or chuch or "townhall" records?  It seems to me that if a family, whom many people have known for many years, decides to leave for another country, there would be some type of announcement or record of this event. Any ideas? Thanks for any thoughts, as this brick wall hurts .

Have never seen announcements of families leaving Ireland in the newspapers- if you are lucky your family would have inserted marriages and deaths in the local paper!
Church records are one of the best sources in Ireland for pre-registration records but in order to track down church records you will need ancestor's location (preferable the townland and parish) and religion.
Pettigo is on Fermanagh/Donegal border so you should check both counties.

They came from the townland of Tullynaloob (various spellings).

Does anyone have any information about families Oliver (from Tullynaloob, just north of Pettigoe on the Fermanagh/Donegal line) or Fitzpatrick (from Fincashel, also near Pettigoe but apparently in both co. Fermanagh and Donegal)? 

John Oliver and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick were married in Templecarne Rectory, Parish of Templecarne, town of Pettigoe, Diocese of Clogher, May 13, 1858 (I have a copy of the marriage certificate).  The Oliver family had lived in township of Tullynaloob for 100 years, apparently, until about 1900.

John and Elizabeth came to Canada ca. 1859, ending up in St. Thomas, Ontario.  I know nothing about their transatlantic crossing, where they landed, or how them got to St. Thomas.

If you can supply their age from their marriage Certificate, that may well help to find info.
I have found entry to Canada for three of my ancestors in 1927 in the past at: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html
All I could find is : http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/archivianet/home-children/001015-119.01-e.php?child_id_nbr=2614
but I doubt it is one of your ancestors.

Hi there,

My family (Veech) too came from County Fermanagh (Tempo) around 1868 to Canada (Toronto) and there is very little information regarding their original travel.  Unfortuantely, no records of immigration were kept during the early years of Canada.  You might have some luck if your ancestors travelled from Canada to US (and visa versa) later in the century.  Immigration records of such were kept and in some cases this information was requested (ie. original port of arrival; steam ship name; date of arrival and place of origin etc.).

There is a marriage record for George Frederick Oliver, storekeeper, age 21, son of John and Eliza, to Drusilla Smith, age 19, daughter of Squire and Eliza J. Smith at St. Thomas, Elgin, 6 April,1881.
They were Bible Christians. The Minister's Name was Rev. James Gray and the witnesses were Peter and Hannah Beaufour.

The 1901 Census has an entry for a widowed John Oliver, born 3 Mar 1839, Ireland, immigrated 1847, as an inmate in St Thomas, Elgin County.
I can see no definition of the place of his abode
