Bumbled,
Every one was doing important War work. It would not be regarded as anything special to work alongside someone well known. a matter of family pride but not in the context of the War Effort.
One was only a serviceman/woman if you were in the Armed Forces.
Not sure if even Merchant Seamen were classed as other than Civilian. Pretty sure that they were not.
People in the CD/Fire Service/Home Guard/Land Army were all civilians.
My friend lost both her Father and 14 yr old brother whilst they were out putting out incendiary bombs. Their deaths are just recorded like any other even though her father had a "Hush Hush "job.
