A very elusive WOULIDGE FAMILY BEFORE 1871 -- can you help?
« on: Saturday 09 April 05 16:54 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
Can anyone give me any information about this  family:
The head is Benjamin Mason Woulidge, born Thringstone about 1806, according to census records, though I haven't been able to find any record of this in  Leicestershire.
I have a Derbyshire marriage for him so perhaps this is where they were at one time
June 1867 Marriage
Woulidge  Benjamin Mason    Reg district of Derby  7b 626
Hutchinson Eliza Reg district of Derby  7b 626
I have them in 1871 in Borough Street in Castle Donington, 1881 in Padge lane Diseworth. Leicestershire but no sign of them before those dates in that county
I would love to know his movements between his birth and 1871.
All I have apart from the marrriage is that he must have been on the island of Saint Helena in and around 1825 as he had a daughter Mary Ann and possibly a son Joseph there by a first wife named  Elizabeth. Mary Ann married in 1851 Joseph in 1852 in Manchester -- no traces of Benjamin there either --so would not be with them after then.
Can anyone find any trace of him for me?
Or give me any advice as to where to look? I have tried everything I can think of so would be eternally grateful for a suggestion

Hi Sylvia and many thanks for the 1901 Woulidge records. and the marriage and death ones.
I have them in 1871 1881 and 1891, just to save you the trouble of looking there, they are in Leicestershire then.
this is very kind of you as this brick wall is harder to knock down than the great wall of china..

Just sent a message - dont know where it went so will try again.  I am a relative by marriage to the Woulidge's.  We are still around and kicking in Leicestershire.  Other branch of the Woulidge's live in South Africa.  Why is this family of interest to you?

 Hi Sylvia,
Thank you so much for taking so much trouble with the Wouldiges, and for a total stranger!
It must have taken you ages, and I really appreciate it.
May someone do the same for you next time you reach a brick wall, you deserve it.
Best wishes from Istanbul in the Fabulous East
                            (it's quite ordinary really)
