BURSNELL family
« on: Tuesday 26 October 10 11:21 BST (UK) »
Trying to research my wifes fathers family. He was Frederick Bursnell and had a brother Cyril. I believe the family came from Barrow on Soar and possibly Oakham.

Dates?

And what have you got already? Have you got Frederick's birth cert? or marriage cert?

Are Fredk / Cyril likely to still be alive?
If not, when/where did they die?
If so, we cant discuss living people on Rootschat, sorry

Death in Leics December qtr 1963 for a Cyril S Bursnell aged 53 so birthyear 1910

Also in 1963 - March qtr in Leics a Frederick Bursnell aged 56 so birthyear 1907

If these are the right entries - you will need to look them up on the 1911 census which is strictly pay per view to establish who their parents were.  Freebmd has several male Bursnell marriages in the earlier part of 1900

Have you checked freebmd for their births

Using only the free 1911 index shows Cyril in Oakham which is Rutland - b 1910

Follow the instructions below to determine other members of the household

USING THE FREE 1911 INDEX TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT HOUSEHOLD

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

Once you find a possible match - make a note of the county and district in which the person was living

Return to the index and in PERSONAL DETAILS - just put the surname of the family - nothing else

In LOCATION - Select the county and below it - type in the district

In OTHER MEMBERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD - show the full name of the person you have found on the index

Click SEARCH

You will have to buy credits to view the full entry - the above instructions will only help to possibly show others of the same name in the same household

Thanks for that. I have marriage and death certificates for Frederick who was my wifes father, Cyril was his brother. My wife would like to trace his past family as she has little knowledge of any grand parents.

So you will have Fredericks fathers name and occupation already from his marriage cert.
Have you seen Carole's wise advise about looking in 1911?
Have you found their births on FreeBMD?
Hopefully in 1911 the boys will be with their family, and the birth certs will confirm their parentage, plus give mothers maiden name so you can work back step by step to your wife's great grandparents marriage.

If you will post details of the parents including their birthyears and birthplaces and when they married - we can check earlier census entries for you
