Horsfalls  margaret.thank you for topic information. your gf samuel ellis is my gf' joseph. i tryed for months  to locate samuel'sfamily. it was very difficult as all the necessary birthdates and marriages date came after the last census. i was finally able to get some of the names with the assistance of garstonite.(thanks again allan). this is the first since then. i would be very happy for any available info on our side of the family. you said your mum had corresponded with wickersham in calif. my gf joseph had a sister annie who married olander f wickersham in calif. i wonder(?)    annie died in 1975. many of her sisters  came to the tacoma washington area. for some reason my gf and his sisters did not get along. and were never close. my gf, gm and father came to the states in 1913 finally settled in tacoma area. my gf opened a meat and fish market in a near by town, dad was a veteranian.if you have any questions, please ask. i know iwould love any info available
(*). however i do have a sister with 4 children  and 9 grand children, so there is some line left.

hope to hear from you   les

Hi have speaking to mum is (*) your father the vet?,  and have you a sister (*) who was in a group called the Fleetwoods.  Elizabeth Higgnet( aunt lizzie as she was known to my mum and siblings) came from Hough Green, her father was a builder and lived over a shop called Bradleys in Fredrick Street Widnes. He apparently built a bridge in Widnes my cousin is going to look for it.  We live in Essex about 200 miles from Widnes my mum married (*) and moved this way in 1946 but all the family stayed very close. The cousin my mum wrote to was (*) Annies daughter who married (*) andhad one son. She didnt know that the sisters and her Uncle Joe as she referred to him didnt get on.  Annie came over here to see my Grandfather about 1969.  I beleive Joseph had a butchers shop in Garston. My grandfather also had a butchers shop in Widnes, Samuels mother was Sarah Ratcliffe she went to America about 1912.Joseph didnt go with her he lived with Samuel and Beatrice. Mum said he had sort of accident and only had one arm so maybe that was something to do with it. I amsure if yoiu want anymore information mumcould provide it she has a terrific memory. She said do you anything about a Sir Henry Leigh of the Leigh Estates I beleive there was a bit of a scandle there lol regards Margaret

Horsfalls....my grand mother was Martha Ann Ellis b 1898 father Joseph Ellis b 1857 - she also had a brother Joseph Ellis b 1896 .....all in Garston ....so
about 1912 you say that Joseph Ellis had a butchers shop in Garston..
IF it is my Joseph Ellis b 1857 - he would be about 55....
Josephs wife was Martha b 1861 Dunham Massey ...
do you have YOUR Joseph in the 1911 census as a butcher - if so ,how old is he and who is his wife ??....cheers....I am intrigued to know if it is the same man ...btw  Joseph b 1857 parents were Edward Ellis and Martha Tipping

horsfalls, hi margaret thanks for the response.i am sorry for the delay in answering. i will try to answer your questions 1st.my father bn april 7 1907 in liverpool was a veteranian, hewas probably the one called leslie. yes i have a sister who was a member of the fleetwoods. my gf joseph.. bn may 9 1879 in widness married elizabeth hignett bn in farnsworth in sep  1879 in garston in 1904. her father was in the building business, my gf had a butcher shop in garston. my gf, gm, and my father crossed to canada about 1913. he ended in puyullup, washington, where he opened a butcher shop. my fatherbecame avet andsoon  after i was born jan 24, 1936 he moved to olympia washington and opened his vet hospital i was joseph leslie jr.
my gf  rarely spoke of his father except he didd say he had some type and lost an arm.sarah came to the states with 3 of  her daughters.and settled in tacoma.  buy the way, did samuel  ever serve in the british  army?  and is it possible  that you are getting garstonite line with mine more later.

les
