This isn't much help - more an interesting snippet.

There is an Ellis Lane in Frodsham, Cheshire.  I often wondered where the name came from.

to moderator JDGen: recieved your notice of the change of my
correspondence from hertfordshire back to cheshire after reviewing them. i am very newat this roots chat program so please forgive
my error. when i realized my grandparents were married in garston
i e-mailed garston for information. the response stated that garston was in the countyof herefordshire. that was when i changed my
correspondence to that county. after reviewing a response from"garstonite" that garston is in lancashire, i'm very confused
as to which county i should be using.iwelcome your assistance.

Hi lesls,

Not a problem, I moved it in the hope you would get more help on the Cheshire board.

This site is always useful when trying to find places:
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/ - there is a list of towns and parished for most of the English counties here.  And it often happens that two separate places have the same name which can be confusing!

Hi lesls,

There is a baptism at Frodsham on the 20th July 1800 that could be yours:
July 20 Joseph S of Samuel and Margaret Ellis, Woodhouses

Samuel ELLIS married Margaret WILLIAMS 13 January 1785 at Frodsham by licence - possibly a bit early but not out of the question if Joseph was one of the youngest.....

to:JDGEN, garstonite and lostock  jean, thank you for the list of children from the baptism records of samuel and margaret. iwent looking for the christening record of samuel ellis and came up with a surprise.cheshire bishops transcripts backed up the connection and located an additional child alice ellisb 20 nov 1756, also listed the father as thomas ellis and the mother as elizabeth. unfortunallydid not give birth dated, marriage dates what cities they were from. and since they were from the early 1700's may be hard to find. i have been having trouble with cheshire BMD, i don't know if it changed or if i have a bad address.  any help would be welcome.  allen i still have not been able to find  a connection of our lines. ellis of lostock hope finding thomas may be of help.
lesls. ps. i did start a family group record on samuels children and will to try to track some if possible.
