Marriage of Peter CRAGOE and Elizabeth BURT
« on: Monday 25 October 10 18:38 BST (UK) »
Hi - I have a Peter Crago, baptised (according to IGI) on 17 July 1769 in Liskeard.

I think his parents are Peter Crago(e) and Elizabeth Burt, married 17 July 1765 in Liskeard also.

Also, maybe a baptism for Peter snr. 18 Aug 1742 in Gerrans. Nothing for Elizabeth Burt.

If anyone can help confirm the above, I'd be grateful - maybe a father for Peter snr.??

thank you

Phil

Hello,

Are the brothers or parents of Peter Cragoe/Crago know, if he had  such?  I am searching for the parents of Francis Crago/Cragoe, born about 1755, died Liskeard, 3 February 1831. Francis Crago married Sarah Russell.

Regards,
Steade

Regarding John Cragoe with parents Peter Cragoe and Elizabeth ULN, there are two John Cragoes listed in the CFHS's records: first baptized 13
April 1768 and the second baptised 20 September 1772, both in Liskeard Parish.  Parents with the same names also have  daughters Margaret, baptised 15 August 1766, and Anne, baptized 26 July 1776, both in Liskeard Parish.  There is also a son, Peter, baptized 19 July 1769, Liskeard Parish.

(There is also a Peter Crago, son of Peter Crago and Margaret ULN, baptized 26 July 1724, Braddock Parish. They had another son, Francis, baptized 15 December 1719 in same parish.)

Steade

PS:   I have come across a marriage between the Oliver and Crago families.   Also, could Bust be mis-transcribed as Bunt or visa versa?   Bunt is a not uncommon surname in Cornwall.

Hi Steade - it looks as if Elizabeth ULN is the wife of Peter Crago then, NOT Elizabeth BURT - all the children's names tie in -

However, Richard Oliver is a witness of their marriage so is it actually Elizabeth Oliver??

And you mention Bust/Bunt - Which Crago has married into this family?

Peter Cragoe and Elizabeth births found in Cornwall Family History Center records did not have a surname for Elizabeth, so I wrote ULN of Unknown Last Name.  I think that you have the correct full name for Elizabeth.

Regarding Bust and Bunt surnames, I did a quick search for John Crago and Constance Tamblyn, who were married 3 March 1829 in St. Pinnock Parish.  Her parents were Francis Tamblyn and Elizabeth Bunt, who were married in Braddock Parish, 22 January 1761, according to distant cousin, who sent me the information.  Bunt appears to be a popular Cornwall surname.

I have found Tamblyn spelled Tomblyn in the Society's records; likely this is a typo or a varient spelling.

Crago is a challenge to research with the many variant spellings through the centuries.

Steade
