GedScape (
www.gedscape.co.uk) is a new software product for browsing, converting and extracting data from GEDCOM files, and generating indexed family tree web sites with charts, reports, pedigrees & photos.
- Easily view all the data within a GEDCOM using indexes of individuals, dates & places, and with charts including family charts, pedigrees and descendants charts, reports such as ancestors and descendants reports, and image galleries. Highly customizable e.g. choice of date formats, index styles, display of citations, notes and images and many other options. Browser-style interface.
- Explore the low-level structure of a GEDCOM (i.e. at the tag level) in a hyperlinked form.
- Generate powerful web sites from GEDCOM files with the same display as GedScape itself. I.e., it is in effect a GEDCOM to HTML converter that previews exactly what a site will look like. Generated web sites can include family charts, pedigrees, descendant charts, image galleries, ancestors and descendants reports, index pages, etc.
- Convert GEDCOM to text/CSV files e.g. to extract GEDCOM data for use in spreadsheets such as Excel.
- Export new GEDCOM files with character set and text file conversion. Useful for converting a GEDCOM for use with legacy programs or other platforms. Supports all commonly used GEDCOM character sets including all Unicode forms, ANSEL, ANSI, Mac etc.
- Selectively exclude chosen data/individuals from conversion/extraction or website generation, e.g. to remove specific individuals (and/or their ancestors/descendants), or to exclude individuals based on their date of birth so as to remove living people, or to remove notes or citations.
- Tag individuals and/or their ancestors/descendants so as to highlight them including on created web sites. Can also be used to limit an export (text/HTML/GEDCOM) to just the tagged individuals.
