« on: Friday 22 October 10 12:20 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm trying to find out information about my Great Great Grandmother. She was a Mary Ann Waters (married name Weeks). She was born in Waverley, Hants in about 1857. She died in Wandsworth 1887. I'm trying to find out about her family.

Do you have a copy of her marriage cert showing her fathers name?

There is a Mary Ann Waters aged 3 on the 1861 census but her birthplace is Farnborough - parents were Peter & Sarah both b Ireland.  Peter was a warder in the  District Divisional Military Prison North Camp Aldershot

Did she marry Frederick William Weeks in 1880 in Wandsworth?  If so - this is the marriage entry

16.9.1880 St Paul, Clapham - Frederick William weeks 22 occ farmer - father Shadrach Weeks occ smithy - deceased

Mary Waters 24 spinster - father George Waters occ gamekeeper

Witnesses were George Edward Weeks and a Hannah whose surname is indecipherable

Mary's address was 13 Portsdale Rd which is where they were living in 1881

Hi,
Thank you for your replies. Yes she is the Mary Waters who married Frederick William Weeks, where do you search to find out the details about the witnesses?

The witnesses were just names on the marriage cert although George Edward Weeks was probably Frederick's brother

There is no census entry for Mary with a father George occ gamekeeper nor is there a George Waters occ gamekeeper - 1861 or 1871

Transcription of 1881 Census I looked at incorrectly states born Waverley, Hants.

If you look at the original it actually states Mary was born Waresley, Hunts (i.e. Huntingdonshire).

1871 Census - Waresley, Hunts.

William Waters    son     9         ditto                       ditto

(George shown married but wife not with family)

Ref. RG10 - 1534 (or 1834) - 120 - 4

1861 Census - Waresley, Hunts.

Hi Annette,
Thank you for your information, it has helped to answer another question why my great grandmother has hannah as a second name - it point to her being named after her aunt.
