Thomas Hazle/Hazell, Stinchcombe Gloucestershire
« on: Thursday 21 October 10 01:40 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for the death of Thomas Hazle/Hazell who was born in c.1782, Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire.

His father's name was also Thomas and his mother was Ann Williams.

Thomas Hazle {jr} married Lois Brown on the 5 September, 1816 at Berkeley Gloucestershire.

They had three children:
Thomas bn 1817. Berkeley. Glou.
William bn 1821.        "
Caroline bn 1827.      "

The surname of Hazell which is how the family has spelt it for many years has been spelt many different ways. eg; Hazel-Hazle-Hassel-Hassell.

There seems to be no record of Thomas Hazle after the birth of his last child Caroline in 1827.

I have search the familysearch.org website and also scribes-alcove but have so far not found anything on when he died.

Any help on finding his date of death would greatly appreciated.

Many thanks..........Aileen     :)

Lois seems to be on her own in 1841, so that narrows his death to 1827-1841.

She is still in Berkeley. William is with her. I saw Caroline too, locally.

Have you checked the PArish registers for Berkelry 1827-1841 fior a burial?

Hi lizdb,
Thank you for the reply sorry that I haven't replied until now been a bit busy .

Thank you also for the information on Lois and Caroline, that helps narrow thing down a bit.

I am not able to check parish records unless they are on line as I live in Australia and it's a bit difficult to check information from here. I am really limited in my research sometimes.

Cheers............. Aileen    :)

Twistedbranches - I know the feeling ;D

Firstly, I hope Arranroots reads this because in moving house and losing lots of e-mails besides my e-mails account I've managed to get locked out of my Rootschat account too and have had to start all over :o

To get back to the subject, I have a Stinchcombe Hazel in my tree - well, everybody needs a nut ;D - and a  few years ago I hired and searched the LDS film of the Stinch' BT's and found :-

1737  April 10   John Hazel married Anne Champion
Baps:-
1738  October   Mary daughter of Jno & Anne Hazel
1740  Sept? 21  Thos son of Jon & Anne Hazel
1743  10ber (aka Dec.) 15  Anne daughter of Jno & Anne Hazel
1747  7ber (aka Sept)  8?  Jno son of Jno & Anne Hazle

I've also had a look at my dogeared notes and found that on 11th Nov 1782 were baptized Thos and John sons of Thos and Ann Hazell.

Trust you may find the above useful.

Regards

Chas

Aileen,

Distant cousins?  I suppose we might be, but I found no Hazels between 1747 and 1762, so if you can bridge that gap . . . . . .

Hi Chas,

I have a John Hazle born 1747, Stinchcombe who married Sarah Cook........if you go to the website tribalpages and type in John hazle and put in his date of death 1771 in the search box then scroll down until you find 'Ross-Hazell Family Tree My Australian Royalty' click  on the name  open that and you can view my Hazells-Hazel-Hazle tree.
You will see various spelling of the name back in 1737 it was spelt Haysill.

Cheers Aileen......... :)

Aileen,

Thanks but if I have to register, I'd rather not visit the site.

There are so many claims which can mislead to be found in various sites that I no longer visit them and rely on verifiable source evidence such as PR's, BT's or other contemporaneous documentation searched via LDS films or at R.O's.

Richard Lockey the curate of Stinchcombe in 1771 gives only the burial (actually he used the word, "Sepult") of John Hazel but one can only draw the conclusion that John was not a child otherwise the curate would have given John Hazel son of etc. as he did for Job Woodward (another of my surnames) in 1771.   That particular John might have been born in 1747 but there's no way it can be verified so should not be accepted as factual although I admit, it's very tempting to do so ;)

Regards

Chas

P.S.

Where was the John Hazel X Sarah Cook marriage found?  Can it be verified?
