That's too bad that the surviving children can't tell you the cause of death.

Hopefully, Lilybell will have some success with her library request.

Did you get his death certificate?  Is the year of death (1932) stated on the Manitoba Vital Events website correct?  In his son Ted's obit, it states that Ted was born in 1927 and was 15 when his dad died so that would make Edward's year of death 1942 and his age would be closer to what Lilybell found in the burial records.  But in Annie's obit, it states that Edward died in 1932...the same as the Vital Stats site.  Hmm....something doesn't add up!!

Have you thought about contacting the church to see if they have any records of his service as a lay preacher?  Given his involvement with the church, they may have more information.
St. Mary's La Prairie Anglican Church, 36-2nd Street SW, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 2A1

Good luck.  I hope you eventually find the information you're seeking.  I know how maddening it is to have pieces of the puzzle missing.

Yes something does not add up, one or the other records must be wrong. On the second figures he would have been about 62 at death. I will contact the church, as there were two references to him preaching in "Rivers" as well as Portage le Prairie. I am going to apply for his death certificate and failing all else will consider a "Working" holiday in Canada as this is becoming a personal challenge.

Link to a memorial listing all RCMP/NWMP who died in the line of duty - Hewins not listed.

Thanks Debbie, I don't think he was killed in the line of duty but get the feeling he was attacked in relation to when he was in the police at some time.

Hi Cumbria

Before ordering the death certificate, you may want to check with Manitoba to see what is included on the certificate....it may not include the cause of death.

Yes you are right, it only gives the date and place. Not sure where to go from here but have written to a couple of church references including one in Endrans, maybe they may help.

Hello Cumbria.

I finally heard from the Portage La Prarie library on the death of Edward Hewins.

Please send me a P M and I will forward the information on to you.

I am waiting on another inquiry and if there is more to add to the story will send it on also.

Sorry it has taken so long but the libraries web site was down for a couple of weeks
