Henry James Carter
« on: Friday 08 April 05 21:35 BST (UK) »

My Great great grandfather Henry James Carter was born 1845 Battersea.

On the 1871/1881 census for Battersea his occupation was Comedian.
Any ideas how I could find out more about this etc.

Thanks,
Granny Annie

Hello,

Sorry can't be of more help, but there is a section on this link about Entertainers, Theatre & Shows which gives some general information but also has profiles of the more famous entertainers of the time.  http://www.victorianlondon.org/

Good luck
Jonathan

Hello Granny Annie,
I've just started looking for information on "Henry Carter - Comedian / Actor" so I think we're looking for the same person.
His son, Alfred Spencer Carter was married to my grandmother's older sister.
Hope to hear from you soon, it would be so good to hear from a potential distant cousin  :)

Hi Vicky,
My line goes from Henry's son Thomas J R Carter. Have not yet discovered exactly what comedian/actor he was.
Between 1881 and 1891 he died details I do not know.
 Interested to hear from you.
Regards Granny Annie

Hi Granny Annie,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner....have had a few months rest from my family tree and am now back with new ideas....
I will look at my Carter line again and then get back to you.
Thanks,
Vicky
