Death of James John Wyatt between 1911 & 1923
« on: Saturday 16 October 10 11:12 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the death of James John Wyatt, who was born about 1863 in Great Oakley, living at 19 Princess Street Parkeston on the 1911 census and shown as "deceased" on his son's marriage certificate in October 1923. I have been unable to find this registered in the Tendring area or his burial at Great Oakley or Parkeston. His occupation was a mariner, although in 1911 he is listed as a quay labourer.

I suggest he died at sea so will not be in the burial records, the amazing thing is that most of the fishermen and sailors could not swim in this time frame,in 1911 I supose he was working at the Harwich docks, which went along to Parkeston,I would have thought somebody born at Great Oakley and living 2 miles away at Parkeston  in 1911 would not have moved anywhere else in his final years.

Best Regards

As far as I know he was onboard the SS Brussels and subsequently died in a POW camp in Germany, in 1918.

He was my great-great grandfather's (Robert Alfred Wyatt) brother.

Hope this is useful!

 Hi Marioni,
Thanks for that information, I think it will be him. Can you confirm that your great-great-grandfather Robert was the son of James John Wyatt Snr and Lydia Barnes as they were the parents of the James John Wyatt I am interested in?
Thank you

For confirmation:

Robert Alfred Wyatt is the son of J J Wyatt snr & Lydia Barnes, who in turn are the children of George Wyatt & Sarah Smith and John Barnes & Lydia Finch.

Hi Mavioni,
Thank you for that. It all ties up with the information I had, so it would seem that your great-great-grandfather was the brother of my great-grandfather.
Thanks again,
Angela

Glad I could be of assistance, Angela!

On an ever-so-slightly off-topic note, do you know when James Wyatt Senr died?

I have found him on the 1911 census, but can't find a record of his death.

PM me if you want to continue this discussion via email and I can send a photo of Robert Wyatt, if you are interested that is!
