Those Stokoes were in that parish a long time--I just wrote about 20 years worth but there were a whole lot more before those times.  They seemed to move around together.

Hi,
Not sure if they're connected to your STOKOEs but these are the Northumberland STOKOEs that I've got:

James STOKOE (b about 1810 Simonburn) married Elizabeth ? (b about 1805 Warden)
and their son Robert STOKOE (bap 17 May 1835 Warden) married Elizabeth FERGUSON (bap 28 Apr 1833 Gateshead)
I then follow the family through to Durham where they connect in to my HALL family.

Hello All
Janis, thanks so much for the extra baptism info, and sorry I haven't had time to pop back on here to say thanks!  I've been poking about the records myself, both the extracted batches for the area and the Family Search Pilot and I've come to the same conclusion as you.... there were a few of them around and they were most likely related!  I found these entries, some of the burials might gel with some of the births you found:

Newbrough (Warden)
Chr Nov 3rd 1771 Nicholas son of William Stoker of Warden P3

Hayden Bridge
Bur Mar 15th 1770 William son of Thomas Stokoe of Whittoes Hill P3
Bur Dec 29th 1770 John son of Thomas Stokoe of Whittoes Hill P6
Bur 28 May 1774 Thomas Stokoe of Threepwood P10
Bur Dec 8 1774 Elizabeth wife of John Stokoe of Hayden Bridge P10

Warden
Chr 16 Oct 1774 Elizabeth dau of William Stokoe of Rattonraw? P11
Chr 15 Oct 1775 John illegitimate child of John Stokoe of West Boat in Hexham Parish born at Woodshields P13

Hi Tim - It's possible our Stokoes are connected but I'm having trouble getting any concrete info on who my lot might be!  If I find out more info I'll let you know!

Brenda

Tim,
Try this site too, part of the IGI site, they have the Bishops Transcripts for Durham & Northumberland, Simonburn is quite well represented, you might find your James.

I'm also looking for connections to Stokoes.  My 3 x g grandfather was James Stokoe of Wellhope, Allendale (b. abt 1785) and his son, John b.22.11.1813 in Rockhouse, Haltwhistle died at Black Cleugh, Allendale on 12.12.1860.  He was married to Ann Nattrass and when widowed married Elizabeth Dixon.  John and Elizabeth had 9 children, one of whom was my g.grandfather, Thomas b.4.9.1855.    On the 1881 census, Elizabeth is living with son, Thomas, a railway signalman, at Pandon, Haydon.  My aunt, now nearly 90, confirms the family originates in the Haydon Bridge area.

Anyone connected or knows who James Stokoe of Allendale was married to?  Her first name appears to be Isabella.   James had at least 3 sons, James, John and Edward and a daughter, Isabella.

Hello my name is David Stokoe, My GR GR GR Grandparents immigrated to the United States in 1852 from England, my GR GR GR Grandfathers name was James (JAS) Stokoe born 1813, he married Ann Elizabeth Herd  in 1835. The 1851 Census shows him living in Durham with wife Ann, sons James  b.1835, John b. 1837, Hanny (Henry)b. 1848, daughters Jane b. 1845, Ann Elizab, & Treza b. 1850. I do not have much info beyond that. The story goes that they came to the U.S. AND MOVED TO Farmington Illinois and stayed with James sister & brother in-law (I have no clue as to who his sister was) I seem to have hit a roadblock in England, dates never seem to match. I am an over the road trucker in the U.S. gone 2-3 weeks at a time no access to a computer so it may take time to respond to any replies. Thanks, David
