Please may I ask if anyone has researched or come across a James Craig (believe he was born Belfast c1845) who married a Sarah Porter (c1845 Glasgow).  I have a marriage for this pair in 1866 in Glasgow and they had around 11 children - the first 9 born Glasgow areas and most died in infancy.  The last two born Ireland John Ross Craig 1884-1916 and Rosina Craig 1891.  Would like to know parents of James if possible.

First child of this pair was called Alexander Craig b1866 Glasgow and he married in Belfast a Alice Paterson b1866 Countydown Marriage details below

Marriage: 2 May 1887 Saint Annes Church of Ireland, Shankill Parish, Belfast
Alexander CRAIG and Alice PATTERSON

Thanks
Dennis

Welcome to Rootschat. Scottish birth certificates usually list date and place of parents' marriage so that might be the first detail to get before searching Irish records. Also, if there is a civil record of the marriage only fathers' names and occupations will be listed- mothers' names are never listed on Irish certificates.

I have found the eleven children already on that site and searched the scotlandspeople site and found 5 deaths of these 11.  It is mainly ancestry of James I'm looking for and probably would like any information on Alice Paterson wife of son Alexander - here is her death notice

Yes, but if you get the marriage of James and Sarah you will have more details such as names of parents.
Civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864 so their will be no birth certificates before that date. To find earlier records of the family in Ireland you will need to know both their religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townland).
