John Neasham born about 1775
« on: Thursday 14 October 10 11:50 BST (UK) »
For three years Ive been unable to progress the birth place, parents or demise of John Neasham ( Neesham/ Nesham etc) who an ancient family Bible dates as being born 15th March 1775.
Acc to the marriage bond, John was a widower aged "upwards of 35 years" , when he married Ann Westmorland in Bowes 1812, and they had 8 children.
He may have first married Ann Laverick as a birth of a son John Neasham in Darlington St Cuthbert`s in 1799 fits a further family Bible entry. I have been unable to locate their other child Ann born as I believe in 1801.
Neither have I been able to trace the demise of Ann Neasham, nee Laverick between 1801 and 1812.
Any clues or suggestions, however small, would be most welcome.
Thank you
Jackie

Thanks Nanny Jan.
I have found two possible Ann Lavericks, both born 1780, one in Morden, Stockton on Tees and one in Great Stainton, Co Durham.
But Old John is so elusive.

Thanks Radcliff.
This is a good shout.
I had seen the 16 Nov 1774 birth at St C Darlington of John on Bishops Transcripts.
You make a fair point about the Bible entry maybe done retrospectively
but I had rather discounted it as the other dates in the family Bible are solid.

Your next John is also St Cuthberts Darlington, which makes me think its more than coincidence,
I cant find the death as yet for his wife ,I will look again later she cant be to far away,if you think that they were over at Bowes ,you could ring the Bowes museum and see if they have any record of him working on their estate.

Dear Radcliff
You are right in that the next John ie born 1799 at St C Darlington to John and Ann seems to support this.
When John snr married for the second time in 1812 , in Bowes, the marriage bond stated his occupation to be a brewer.
Your suggestion of possible employment with the Bowes Estate or maybe in Barnard Castle or in Bowes itself I will follow up, and post on.
He seems to have moved about, and there will have been breweries in Darlington.

From mid 1700s, there were Neashams ( originating from Hutton Magna) living nearby in Romaldkirk. One of these was a marriage in 1769 of a John Neasham with Anne Lumley, but I have been unable to trace any issue from this marriage, either online or through the parish indexes at Durham.
Anything you get on Ann Neasham nee Laverick, or their daughter Ann born about 1801 would be very welcome.
Thank you for your information and ideas to date.

Jackie

Dear colleagues
I got him.
A trip to Northallerton to consult the Cleasby parish registers finds him exact to the 1775 d o b we have in the family Bible.
Thank you to all who welcomed me / responded on this forum.

Hello Jackie,
I’ve just been reading your post about John Neasham and was wondering if you ever found any more information on Ann his wife they were my 4x grandparents. John his son married Sarah Wappet 3x and their daughter Sarah Ann married George Etherington my 2x. George’s daughter Annie my g grandmother and Annie’s son  John Wandless was my grandfather. Did you ever find Ann ( John’s sister) I’ve been told she married William Thomlinson in Darlington. I know it’s quite a while since you wrote this post so hopefully you will receive this.
Kindest Regards.
