Joseph Boyes Ash -1841/1851/1861 census
« on: Friday 08 April 05 15:10 BST (UK) »
I am looking for two Joseph Boyes Ash [father & son].  Joseph the son was born about 1834/35.

Please look for them both in the 1841 census in which the son would be about 6 or 7 living with his father Jospeh Boyes Ash.  Although he may not use the Boyes [his middle name] in his census entry.

In 1851 or 1861 please look for both Joseph Boyes Ash the older and younger. Joseph the son never married until August 1861 so this was after the census was done so he'd be single.

If you can only look in one census then please look in the 1841 as they would be living in the same household in that census so they may be easier to find. they may also have been living in Malton or Ayton.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there anyone out there with access to the 1841, 1851 or 1861 censuses?

Hi Astley

Where do you think they lived?  You say the may also have been in Malton or Ayton but don't say where you think they were.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

The son Joseph Boyes Ash was born in two different places in two different censuses.  One says he was born in Baringhs Ambo, Yorkshire and the other Ayton, Yorkshire.  He got married in Malton.

Any help would be great.

Hi all.

Just disovered Joseph Boyes Ash on this site.  I didn't know there were two of them (father and son).  JBA junior was my great great grandfather.  He married Isabella Blair in Malton in 1861.  According to his gravestone he died on 21-May-1910 aged 74.  He is buried in Manor Road Cemetery, Scarborough along with his wife who died on 14-Jun-1905 aged 68.  I have a photo of the gravestone which I will email on request.
Their children included:-
John William b.1862
Frederick b.1868
Mary Isabella (my g.grandmother) b.1870  d.12-08-1956
Ada b.1873  (married Henry Farrah)
Josh b.1874

Mary Isabella was married to Alfred Boothman. They lived and died in Scarborough.
I was always led to believe that the family came from Malton but this may just be in recent times.
Does anyone know where the name Boyes comes from?
Does anyone know the name of JBA senior's wife and their ancestors?

Would love to hear from anyone with similar research interests.

Harry,

I see it is a while since you've posted, but . . . you asked if anyone had similar research interests.

My ancestors were also Ash, and they all hailed from Old Malton and New Malton. I don't seem to have a Joseph among them, however - at least, that I'm aware of.

I've found the "Malton Messenger" issues posted on Genuki to be extremely helpful in the past.

My ancestor was one of several in Malton named Lancelot Ash.

I thought it might be worthwhile to post in this regard, in case you think there is any connection.
