If the youngest is Sylvester & he's 14 in this that would fit with a date of 1919.

I didn't notice that one was wearing a corsage! You are a lot more observant than I am!!  The father was the oldest of several brothers, so I don't know who the older man could be. :-\  He certainly looks like family to me.  You do mean the man in the straw hat, when you talk about the older man? I'm really bad at peoples ages!

I think it's a Fedora but yes that's the one.As one of the sons has his arm on his shoulder would suggest family.
He looks 65-70.Maybe an uncle to the father then.

I would be grateful for a tidy up of this photo please and anything else you care to do.  :)

I am trying to work out who is who but I am hopeless with ages!

There is Joseph b 1886,  Charles b 1887, William 1888, Adolphus 1896, Hector 1900, Trevor 1901,
Richard 1902 and Sylvester 1905.  A couple of them seem obvious but others I don't have a clue.

I am presuming that the oldest man is the grandfather, do you think the resemblance is there?  Grandfather died in 1913.

Any help would be lovely! :)

Thanks,

Elin

Hi Elin,

Well the lads at the back all look about 18 to me, except the one behind Father with a bow tie, straight up collar on, he is a little older than that 25/6 at a guess, I recon his collar and dress about 1902/6 like my Gramp who was picture about the same time. [that one is dated]  ???

The RH side with the straight collar. He is nearer 25/29.  I reckon that they are post war lads!  The ones born in the 1800's I mean. :-\

Now the boy in the front twixt the adults, ie Dad and ?? Grandad, is about 8/9 or big for his age.  :-\

I cannot see a resemblance at the moment, but I will study it more closely and get back to you on that.
I have only had a very quick glance, I have not stopped to work anything out properly yet either!

How sure are you that the man on the left is the father?
Could it be the man on the right & the other one is a younger brother?

Hi Rabbit,

Thanks for all your thoughts! ;) Interesting that you think the smaller boy is 8/9 I don't think any of them were tall people.  I would like him to be 8 because that could make the older man his grandfather :-\

Thank you for having a look at it for me, it has had my head spinning all day!

I have a contact researching the same family and their grandaughter is doing a GCSE history project on WW1.  The idea is that they try and find their own ancestors who were involved and find out a bit about them.  I have been puzzling about this one on my own behalf for a long time now anyway.

Anyway thanks for your help our Bun,

Elin  ;D

Hi Jim,  my two elderly aunts both knew him and are certain that it is him, but do you mean a younger brother of the father? That is a clever thought and my aunts weren't even born at that time.
He was older by the time they came along, he was born in 1859.

Thanks,

Elin
