It is most likely that all that is in the baptismal register is the date of baptism, name of child, name of father and residence (townland). Only later did Presbyterian ministers usually start listing mother's Christian and sometimes maiden name and date of birth or age of child.

Thanks aghadowey
do you think it would be possible that  Solomon would have married in the
same church

Marriages usually, although not always, took place in the bride's church.

You must also not be too quick to assume that you've found a relative because of what you think is an uncommon name. If Solomon is a family name there could easily be more than one person in the family with the same name living in the area at the same period.

Hi  aghadowey
thanks for the advice
but I really wasn't assuming that Solomon and Betty Ann were my relatives
I am not even sure the one born 1796 is mine either
and wont be until I find the Solomon born 1822
I just thought if Solomon married in the same church as his daughter was baptised
it would give the name of his wife which may give me a lead as a middle name for any of the children
and what I meant when I said to Lorisg that maybe I could now find Solomon and Ruth was
that as there were Given's in that Parish
mine might be there too

Elaine, I don't have a baptismal certificate I'm afraid. All I have is someone's typed list of baptisms 1805-1812, 1818, 1825,1826.  Sorted by surname, so William, son of Thomas GIVEN of Blakes just made it - 1805 Aug 09 no birthdate given, and Betty Ann, daughter of Solomon GIVEN of Blakes 1807 Sep 13
Aghadowey, would these be the only registers that have survived for the 1800s?               Regards       Loris in Queensland

Elaine, I should have apologised for my mistakes in the first message I sent re the baptism of William
Thanks Aghadowey for the dates of the newspaper indexes you have access to.  I'm sure you would have sent all the appropriate Gillespie, Kennedy and Murdock ones, but Mrs James Gillespie, whose death notice you found for me, and which was so very helpful, was said to be Mary Ann HUTCHISON, [probably born about 1797]. I have nothing more on either Mary Ann or her husband James, so would be grateful for anything further.  Regards from Loris
