FTM 2011

Hi

 Has anybody tried FTM 2011, I use the 2005 version, is it worth the $ to upgrade ?

Personally I would say yes, although a lot of people would disagree with me. I use 2010 and find it much improved on the unloved (and rubbish) 2008, which was a complete change to 2006 and previous editions. I think it's a much cleaner look, better integration with Ancestry and has far more features. Like everything new it takes a while to get used to, but once you do it is easy to use and is completely different to 2005. However, having said all that, if you are running an oldish PC with XP I would stick with 2005, the newer versions do need more processing power and slow down older PCs.

I have it on order (?not released until next week) to upgrade from 2008 and can't wait to give it a go!

I'm also looking forward to the 6 month Premium subs to a useful website as my basic subs with them will expire at the end of this month. Due to this it seems an economic way of getting both things together.

I am using FTM 2010 & previously used their earlier versions for several years.

I got the new 2011 version last week & it has been a nightmare. Firstly the programme wouldn’t load, I have spent much of this week sending & receiving emails from their support people. Finally I got it to work after uninstalling & reinstalling a couple of times, deleting files &tinkering about with registry stuff. Now it its loading but crashing at regular intervals.

I have given up as I feel it is still full of bugs & not ready to release.  I will stick to 2010  for now & am considering  moving to something else a bit more stable.

I upraded to FTM2011 last week, and for me there has been no problems. One thing though, is that you have to convert any trees in previous versions to the new version. This is a quick & painless process, and as it makes backups of the converted trees, they should still be readable in older versions.

So my advice would be to go for the upgrade, as long as your computer meets the requirements.

It arrived on Friday and so far seems good. Much improved chart options on the old version I was running.

I am keen to use the story facility but have yet to get to grips with it - just not had time to use it yet!

I have FMT 2011 on order.  I am a Rootsmagic user and have been testing Family Historian and have decided that it is alittle lacking in the sources and tasks side of things.

Can anyone tell me, can you create a website in FMT 2011?

Can anyone else comment on the comparison of Family Historian to FTM 2011 or FTM in general?

I currently use FTM 2010 (although I also still have FTM 2009 which I use to print from as i find the layout easier). FTM 2010 is better than previous versions for storing data etc and working online and I want to upgrade to FTM 2011 but can anyone tell me if I should upgrade to the Delux or Platinum version? Which is better? I know the Platinum one has more features (incl 6mth access to Ancesty) but how much better is it than the delux one? Can anyone advise me on which one to pick?
