I am trying to trace my greatgranddad, known details are taken from census and army records. his name was Richard Fransis Twigg, born about 1847, now his place of birth has been given as Bakewell, Sheffield and Chesterfield. I have got various birth certs for these areas but none are right. he joined the army in 1867 I have a copy of his records from Windsor Barracks but they give very little information, only he was aged 18years 9 months, and was training to be an electro plater.prior to joining. never gave any next of kin. no trace of him prior to this. He married in london in 1873 his father was named as James Twigg a captain in the merchant services No trace of him either. the puzzle came when I got a copy of his death cert his name was given as Richard Francis Riley otherwise Twigg. I have copies of All records after 1867 till his death in 1917.
