Sorry I might be wrong about the children living with John Brady at no. 8 Mahonburgh, I think it is the other Police men.  Have you been in touch with the police they might be able to help you.  I think you would have to call in at the police station or write them a letter.

Police stations will not have records of former officers but records are likely to be held some like National Archives. Perhaps someone else will be able to provide details of where to contact for service records.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

You could try The National Archives, Kew, Richmond, Surrey. TW9 4DU

or Proni RIC records kept on microfilm

PRONI is now closed until April 2011 but their e-catalogue can still be looked at online at www.proni.gov.uk

There was a Police Barracks at no. 18 Ruan Commons and a Teacher called Hugh Brady  living at no. 16 Ruan Commons.  So it is possible that your John Brady was transfered from Manonburg to Ruan do you know when he was pensioned.

I don't I'm afraid - and I have become confused by an earlier post - I may have to open this thread again -
Good chance that your Rosannne was Rosanna Brady, a visitor in the house of Patrick and Ellen Farrelly in Carraroe South in Galway. Patrick was an RIC constable. A Patrick Farrelly married an Ellen Burke in the Ballinrobe Registration district in 3rd quarter 1889. So Ellen was possibly/probably Rosanna's aunt.

This doesn't make sense because Ellen was 22 when census was taken in 1901 which would mean she was 10 when she got married >:(
Do you have facility to check marriage date?
All help is greatly appreciated

Sorry. That 1889 for the marriage date of Patrick Farrelly and Ellen Burke should have been 1899. Culbaire.

ah, that makes a bit more sense although they all seemed to get married so young back then - thank you.
