Webb Peter b 1850
« on: Thursday 07 October 10 17:14 BST (UK) »
Apologies as I am new at this. I think my great grandfather is Peter Webb b 1850 in Lydbrook Glos married Eliza Webb b 1846 in Berry Hill Coleford.  In 1911 census she was born in 1845 yet on the birth record 1848! Is this normal?

Anyone out there related to this pair?

the eldest son ended up in Eglwysilan, Treforest. I traced Eliza from the 1911 census when she was visiting him. There she was 1845 but when I traced her on the 1881 census she was born in Coleford and her eldest son was also born there in 1872 which ties into the Treforest census.

Have no idea of the Abergavenny connection. What is that?

oops - yes I traced her as Eliza Ward on the Gloucester records as being born in 1848 in the Forest of Dean - her mother's maiden name was Hale.

I think what is confusing us both is that the wedding is monmouth regiistered and the reg dist of dean on the census is monmouth which turned into Abergavenny later on.
It is obviously right on the border so when looking up on the census she appears to be moving in and out of gloucestershire and wales.

The 1851 is transcribed as 4 years old but looking carefully at the image it is 2.and on one site is recorded as 2.

It is not unusual to find an age discrepancy.Sometimes it depends on who is filling in the census.I see she is a bit older than him so perhaps decided to shave a bit off.

I cant see her in 1901,He seems to be with 2 of the children on his own.The reg dist is Abergavenny on this one.

I was worried a bit about the different ages.

Thank you so much - very kind of you. She's on the 1911 one in Treforest with her eldest son.

Are you related?

I couldn't find her or Peter in the 1851 census - nor on any other censuses except for the 1881 one and her on the 1911 one. Am waiting for the voucher to arrive for membership to fully access the other censuses and have just been trying the free looks. As I said I am very new to this.

I will try and find him under Abergavenny in 1901 - many thanks.

Do you know her parents' names  on the 1851 one please - I am soooo looking forward to be able to access it all!
