Hi, I'm hoping you may be able to advise me on the following...
I was searching for my great grandfather Timothy Crowley who lived in Invercargill and 'magically' came across a single family group on the LDS 'Familysearch.com' website which included my GGrandfather and also showed my grandfather and his siblings. Timothy was shown as born circa 1956 and yet the NZ bmd lists show 1864 (and no parents which is very annoying!). The LDS site has no source information so I have no idea where they got this information.
The marriage date 1881 of Timothy to Kathleen was correct.
I later found that 1956 was the year of establishment of Invercargill and 1864 the year of formal recording of bmd in NZ, so both dates could be suspect. To top this off, Kathleen was buried as 'Catherine' at Eastern Cemetary but there is no evidence of Timothy. They were Catholic.
There seems to have been a separation and a Timothy appears at Lawrence Cemetary buried next to another wife Hannah (m: 1897 no record on NZbmd).
Questions
Is it possible to find out reliably how many Timothy Crowleys there were in Invercargill and Otago around 1850-1870?
Given that NZbmd had no parents recorded for Timothy , is there another way to find them in Invercargill?
Any info would help.
Thanks
John Crowley
