Could we be ROOTSCHART instead of ROOTSCHAT?
« on: Thursday 07 October 10 04:05 BST (UK) »
This might sound like a very silly thing to ask...or a very simple think to ask...or a very cheeky thing to ask. It's very possably a very difficult thing to ask....
But, every year when I update my security I have to be extremely careful to disable the Child Protection component because it bans any website with the term CHAT within it's name.
Since I have two computers, I have to this twice, and often I stuff up and have to delete the whole program and start again. It's a painful process for someone who is only semi-literate when it comes to computers.
I doubt I'm alone in this, many security systems have Child Protection components which do the same thing.
ROOTSCHART is only adding one little letter, 99% of people wouldn't even notice...in fact, there's probably people out there who pronounce it that way. It's still saying what the site is about, charting our family history rather than chatting about our family history.
So, Tristan, would this be a difficult thing for you to do? If it involves paying for licences and other convoluted legal stuff, forget it...I don't want to cause you any more problems than you must be facing every day with all us finikity people.
Is it do-able? Can we at least think about it?     Please?
Leonie.

Sometimes (about once a week) I get alert messages from my anti-virus thingy about "Rootschat" I had guessed (without ever checking) it was the "roots" bit rather than "chat" and I have to go through similar techie stuffs too...  I like the thought about "chart" v "chat" but of course it could mean changes to licence stuffs and other legalities so like Leonie says I too don't want to cause any more problems for you Tristan.

Cheers,  JM

Yep,
For non Aussies and non NZ'ders  ;D  the offending word that Ruskie and I notice is and was considered "rude"  and in past decades could be grounds for divorce if it involved an illegal activity...

In divorce papers from circa 1890's in NSW the legal words would often be to the effect that Mr XYZ was found in "criminal conversation" with Mrs ABC etc thus Mr ABC would be granted a divorce regardless of any other issues (eg battering of his wife over extended periods).

Sometimes Mrs ABC would choose to nominate a fictional Mr XYZ and a fictional date for such criminal conversation just to be rid of Mr ABC  ;D  ;D  ;D

(And of course sometimes Mrs ABC would be seeking a divorce because of Mr ABC's criminal conversations (fictional or otherwise).  Took until mid 1970's to get legislation for NO FAULT divorces through Parliament in Australia.  100 years of divorce laws with main thrust concentrating on "adultery stuffs" before no fault divorces.

Cheers, JM

Do you need Child Protection turned on?  I never have it turned on as my laptop is rarely used by any grandchildren and even when it is I am sitting with them.  I don't have to disable it every year when I renew my Firewall etc.

What kind of a world do we live in when children have to be protected from the word 'chat'? They can go into a newsagents and see all manner of topless women with unfeasible breasts, but no, let's block the word 'chat'. Madness.

It is madness...BUT...

It is well documented and known, that "chat" rooms are a well known "resource" for pedophiles - and they use all forms of chat forums/rooms/sites to target unsuspecting and somewhat innocent  youngsters.  I know of one incidence in my own personal sphere where this happened.  Fortunately, it was caught, by an observant parent, and the police were involved.  better to be safe than sorry...especially when it involves children.

Leonie, is there no way, that you cannot just make an exception for the "Rootschat" website?  Are there no options on your security program for exceptions?
