James Powell-Soldier-Ireland?????

Help required
How do i set about tracing my ggggrandfather.

All i have is
James Powell born Ireland...about 1790 - 1800.... dont know where

Turns up in The Knowle Rowley Regis Birmingham 1847 on his sons Nicholas
 marriage cert, so he may not have been present...

Listed as occupation Soldier on above marriage cert.

His son Nicholas is also listed as born Ireland abt 1826.

i have no other info .

has anyone got any ideas where to look  :-\

you need to establish where in Ireland James was born from other sources - i.e. which parish, you also need to know the family religion.

1790/1800 is quite early for parish records - so they may not exist for the area you need.

his son Nicholas was married in a C of E church in Rowley Regis.

What are these" other sources" you mention.
