Wiltshire famillies - TAYLER, HITCHCOCK, ELLING, BROOKS and SMITH
« on: Tuesday 05 October 10 15:39 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Just started research into my wife's side of things. Before I go off and spend some time at Wiltshire Records Office I wondered if anyone had come across any of the following familes:

ELLING of Sutton Veny
I'm currently at Richard Elling (b 27 Dec 1791, bap 5 Feb 1792, m 31 Oct 1822, d 8 May 1858)

BROOKS of Warminster
I'm currently at Harriet Brooks (b 1 Jan 1801, bap 28 Jun 1801, d 1 Apr 1878)

SMITH of Norton Bavant
I'm currently at Margaretta Anne Smith (b abt 1835, d 24 Feb 1899)

TAYLER of Keevil
I'm currently at James Tayler (b bet 1813 and 1817, m 1849, d Sep 1874)

HITCHCOCK of Stanton St Bernard
I'm currently at Caroline Hitchcock (b 1818)

Any information would be appreciated
Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim,

I have Hitchcocks on my fathers mothers side of the family but they were all from Oxfordshire. I'll have a look at my tree and see if I have any who may of settled in Wiltshire and i'll get back to you...:)

I believe my husband is a descendant of the Smith family in Wiltshire that you mention. Sidney Smith's daughter married Robert Elling.  Please be in touch if you think we have a match.

Hi,
Robert ELLING who marrried Margaretta Anne SMITH in 1859 is my wife's 3rd Gt Grandfather.
My research is currently on hold but if you let me know where your interest lies I can see what I've got.
Tim

Thank you.  Joseph Smith from Seend in Wiltshire,  was the father of Sidney Smith who was then the father of Margaretta. I have just started looking at this side again so unsure of dates but around 1800 for sons Sidney and Samuel.

Have you looked through this lot before travelling..i found an inquest record of death of a possible relative in Seend, Wiltshire, a Gibson, who fell in a ditch and died in the cold.

herefords,
I've done quite a bit of Wiltshire research (SMITH, TAYLER, ELLING, MATTHEWS, PILE etc etc) going back circa 1700.
Let me know what info you're after and I can see what I've got. I can PM you if necessary.
