Hynes family
« on: Tuesday 05 October 10 00:06 BST (UK) »
Hi
Is it possible to find a birth (about 1846) or christening record (Jun 1848) for Jane or Joane Hynes at Drum in Roscommon, Ireland. And if so, are her siblings Alfred Mortimer Hynes and Mary A Hynes in the same place (Alfred chr May 1849) and Mary in about 1852.
Also looking for a marriage record of Mortimer Hynes and Emma Evans in 8 Jun 1847, possibly in Sligo.
Would be grateful for any help (besides familysearch)
Thanks
Cheers
Margaret in Australia

Full Civil registration did not start in Ireland until 1864 - so there will be no birth certs before that date. For earlier records you need to research parish records (if they exist). To do this you first need to establish the family religion and where they lived - i.e. town, townland or parish

There is a record of the marriage of Mortimer Hynes & Emma Evans in the Galway Vindicator newspaper according to the records on www.rootsireland.ie  This is a pay per view site, €5 a record.
I can't see any record of children's birth on this site
Burns Scotland/Australia/Cork
Fitzgerald East Cork
Lynch Glanmire/Glounthaune
Walsh Clare/Westmeath
Haskett
Murley Cork

Even better are the free records on LDS Pilot site- and it looks like the family were in England not Ireland.

Alfred Mortimer Hynes christened? 29 May 1849 Bishops Caundle, Dorset, England- son of Mortimer Hynes & Ema Evans

Joane Susan Hynes (1848 Dorset).

Mortimer and Emma married 1847 Cheshire, England.

Also there's a record of Alfred Mortimer & his Indian born wife Emma (?) Margaret in the 1911 census living in Drumcreehy, Co Clare http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/  Can't see them in 1901, possibly they were living in India, if so try www.fibis.org

Thankyou all very much. You have been helpful. I think the Hynes children were born in Ireland but baptised at Bishops Caundle in England. The family seemed to have alternated between Ireland and England.
Cheers
