Gertrude 'Muriel' Jowitt, Rev. Charles Raw Thomas, Percy Brook
« on: Monday 04 October 10 20:02 BST (UK) »
I continue to search for info on descendants of:

Gertrude Eveleigh Muriel Jowitt, perhaps known as Muriel (b.1878 in Levenshulme) - can't find marriage or death record for her

Rev. Charles Raw Thomas (1873-1941) + his wife Hilda Jowitt (b. Chorlton cum Hardy 1885-aft. 1941)

Percy Brook (b. 1880) + his wife Ethel Mary Jowitt (b. Chorlton cum Hardy1883) - they did have at least one child Phyllis E. M. Brook, b.1908 but I have nothing after that.

Any leads would be SO greatly appreciated!!

There is a probate reference to a Gertrude Eveleigh Muriel Birchall, who died at Paddington Hospital on 2 May 1940, widow, formerly of 11 Carleton Mansions, Maida Vale, London, probate to Richard Locke Bell, medical practitioner on 24 June.

Bearing in mind that her name is quite unique, I wonder if this is her?

Edit:  I've found a possible Mr Birchall - Oswald - who was a lot older than her (29 years) and also died in Paddington in 1918.  I can't find a marriage between the two yet though..   could the age of her husband be the reason she suddenly ships out from Lancashire to London (assuming it is her? ;D)

Charles Raw Thomas and Hilda Jowitt married in 1909 in Manchester area

There are a few children registered to a Thomas & Jewitt marriage in Beverley, Yorkshire from around that time.  Do you know if they had a Yorkshire connection?

This sure does look like it's the same person; I can hardly believe it after all this time!! I found them in the 1911 census and her year of birth is given as 1879 and place of birth as Manchester so both are pretty close. They were living in Paddington even then and had been married for 8 years so that would put the year at 1903 or maybe 1902.
I can't thank you enough, Ruth!!

No, I don't know. Given that he was a clergyman they may have moved around some. I do know that he died in Rochdale, Lancashire

I know this is 8 years later but I was just looking at Gertrude Eveleigh Muriel Jowitt.  Oswald was married to Elizabeth Fetherstonhaugh from Ireland and they lived in Yorkshire where they had four children.  He was there with her in 1901.  By 1911 he was in Paddington and she was in Ireland back at her father's house.  She lists herself as married.  So one has to presume there wasn't a divorce and Gertrude couldn't marry him.
