Electoral Roll - Goodiers Lane Salford
« on: Monday 04 October 10 17:46 BST (UK) »
Would anyone be able to do a look up for me? I am trying to find if Laura Shields was living in Goodiers Lane, Salford (Goodiers Drive ) as it is now known.  She was possibly living at No. 25 but not entirely sure. She may have used her maiden name of Burgland and she may also have been living there with her then boyfriend Fred Hobson. Fred and Laura married in 1954 by which time they were living in Manchester. They were still living in Manchester in 1955 and 1956. So I am looking at dates for Goodiers Lane either pre 1954 or post 1956 but believe it more likely to be early 50’s. I would be really grateful for any help with this. Thank you.

Is this person still alive?  Her first marriage was in 1940 and there is a 1917 birth under a slightly different spelling of her maiden name

No she died in 1999. Her first marriage was to Robert Shields who died in 1984 and her second husband Fred died in 1985. Laura was born in 1917.

go to www.salford.gov.uk and contact the Elections office,  they will be able to tell you where you can view the Electoral Registers for the 1950's and you can look up the streets you are interested in and see who is registered to vote.  The heritage library for Salford may also hold records that you can go along and look at

Hi Route66

Thanks very much for the link to the Salford.gov I have no problem visiting the web site and contacting the Elections office.  Unfortunately my only problem is getting to Salford,  I live approximately 250 miles away. Do you think maybe the Elections office will do a look up on my behalf?  I didn't know about the heritage centre either so thank you very much for that too.

You could write or e-mail  the Elections Office at Salford with the dates, name of the Street and persons you are interested in,  they may be prepared to check for you but may charge a fee.

Thanks for that.  I have sent an email to the Elections Office so fingers crossed someone can tell me where the records are held and if anyone can do a look up for me.
