Anyone else researching the Kerr/Pryde family?
« on: Monday 04 October 10 09:58 BST (UK) »
My great grandmother is a descendant of this family from Isobella Pryde, Helen Kerr and William Pryde's daughter, born in 1818, who married a James McKinlay/Kinlay in 1838, and it's their daughter Janet who was my great grandmother. Has anyone firmly established that Helen was the daughter of Mungo Kerr, born in 1764 at a place called Hawthorne, Lasswade, Midlothian, who was married to Isobel Penman, born similarly in Lasswade in 1764? If I have the correct Mungo Kerr then his father was William Kerr and his mother was Janet Wilson. William and Janet had a lot of children.
Mungo Kerr 1764 Lasswade
Elizabeth Kerr 1766 Lasswade
Thomas Kerr 1769 Lasswade
Archibald Kerr 1771 Lasswade m. Helen Lilley
Helen Kerr 1773 Lasswade
William Kerr 1773 Lasswade
George Kerr 1775 Lasswade
Andrew Kerr 1777 Lasswade m. Marion Selkirk
Elizabeth Kerr 1779 Lasswade
Isabella Kerr 1781 Temple
Unfortunately, there seem to be a lot of Kerrs in this area - all with similar Christian names - so I'm not sure if I've gone off on the wrong family line, or the correct one, so if anyone else is researching this family I'd be grateful for any input/correction

Yes, I have Andrew Kerr and Marion Selkirk in my tree.  Their daughter, Margaret Kerr, married Robert Mutter, their daughter Helen Mutter married John Latimer, they are my Gr. Gr. Grandparents...their son John Latimer, married Margaret Coventry, they immigrated to the US in 1903, and settled in Southern Illinois where John was a coal miner. I live with my family in a suburb of Chicago.

James McKinlay & Isabella Pryde are my 3xgreat-grandparents.  I'm descended from their son George b1843 who married Mary Ann Beveridge (daughter of William Beveridge & Jane Paterson).

I realise the original post is 5 years old, but I hope to hear from another researcher.

Hi Pam

James McKinlay & Isabella Pryde had 11 children, are you descended from any of them?

George McKinlay was born in Newbattle in 1843, Mary Ann Beveridge in Cockpen or Lasswade in 1851.  Their son James was born 1868 in Newtongrange, he's my great-grandfather.

Hi

No I am not directly descended but there are connections, my ancester Mary Dennison married Kerr Watson whose grandmother was Mary Kerr who was the granddaughter of George Kerr and Jean Mason and Mary Dennison's sister Christina Dennison had an illegitimate child with Robert McIntosh b 1832 to Alexander McIntosh and Beatrix Pryde so this all led me to research both the Prydes and the Kerrs

Kerr Watson b1845 is my 4th cousin 5 times removed (thank goodness for software that works it out).

I have three children for Kerr Watson & Mary Dennison, Mary 1873, Thomas 1877 & Elizabeth 1882; Elizabeth married Alexander Wallace (I have no info about him) and that's where my information stops.
