GILBY - Raunds nonconformist records
« on: Sunday 03 October 10 15:26 BST (UK) »
My sister-in-law's family, the Gilby's, were Quakers who lived at Swavensey, Cambs in the mid-1800's, before that in Molesworth, Hunts (back to early 1700's). However many of the key events in the earlier period come up as Wellingborough, Northants, where the Quarterly Meetings of the Friends Society took place (Raunds).
Does anyone have access to records or research experience that would help establish whether the Gilby family ever lived in Raunds / Wellingborough, or whether this is merely the place of registration of births and burials?

Hi Frazshep.

I have records for the Non-conformists chapel at Raunds I do not
know of a Cemetery.  :-\

It is not a quaker one though, it is Methodist.

I am linking the other thread so we know what has been noted also.

Hi again.

Graham has a list of Chapels in Northants here.

http://edintone.com/dirchap.html

And the Northants Record Office have the following records.

SOCIETY OF FRIENDS

Quarterly Meeting and BUGBROOKE and NORTHAMPTON Monthly Meeting
C or B, 1647-1836, M, 1659-1834, B, 1657-1837

WELLINGBOROUGH Monthly Meeting
C or B, 1653-1824, M, 1734-1773 B, 1662-1776

Hopefully the later ones may help you.

I have just checked my pictures of Wellingborough Quaker graves.

No Gilby's I am afraid.  :(

Hi Sandy,
Thank you for all of the above which I will sift through. Interesting - the records say "burial place - Raunds" so either the graves are too old (which is quite likely) or that was where the record was deposited ie Quarterly meeting of Society of Friends.
I've checked the volume numbers of the nonconformist records and they are definitely Quaker registers, not Methodist (which is what I suspected first of all).
Anyway, many thanks for your guidance - I'll ponder where to go next...
Cheers,
Frazer

Hi Sandy,
Yes, clocked that. They are a family living a mile up the road from our lot, also Quakers and with a run of Thomas's and Williams in their line - but I cannot find a bit of paper to connect them. As we all know you can come a cropper if you just make assumptions!

that are buried in Raunds.  :)
