Hi All,
I think I have made some progress;
but first of all I do not understand Hackstaple's last comment please explain.
I believe Douglas Audley in the 1881 census of Broom Durham born Starnel is really Douglas Handley.
I believe Douglas Handley married Sarah Lambert in Q4 1876 at Dewsbury, and had their first daughter Agnes in Q4 1880. Whilst Douglas Handley was in Broom Durham in the 1881 census, his wife and child were living with her parents in Thornhill Dewsbury. It looks as though Douglas Handley was working away from home at the time of the 1881 census. In the 1891 census the family was living together in Guildersome Yorkshire. In the 1901 census Douglas Handley was in Leeds General hospital and died in Q2 1901 in Bramley,
I cannot find Douglas Handley in the 1851, 1861 or 1871 censuses. Although in the 1871 census there is a Douglas Handley on board HMS Columbine born Lancashire, Bury, Cockennen, however in the 1871 census he is aged 32. This is 10 years to old to fit in with the 1881, 1891 & 1901 censuses.
Thanks once again for all your help
Regards Brian Audley
