Catherine Donnelly Campbell

Hi,

I am looking for some information on Cathrine Donelly Campbell born 15 July 1865 Aghadowey district, daughter of Thomas Campbell and Jane Templeton.
Catherine married Patrick McLaughlin in Coleraine R. C. Church, Killowen Parish on 4 Oct 1887.

I would like to go further back if I could, I would like to find out who Thomas Campbell's parents were and also Jane Templeton's parents and occupations.

I am also stuck at Patrick McLaughlin - I know his father was James McLaughlin but I don't know who Patrick's mother was. Patricks grandfather was also James and I may be wrong but I've come across a James McLaughlin who married Mary McPoyle which could link in with Patrick's grandfather?

Patrick McLaughlin was a wine and spirit merchant who I believe owned his own public house however both his father and grandfather were farmers so I am curious to find out how Patrick became a wine & Spirit Merchant, where he got the money, was in inherited.

I would appreciate any help with this.

Hi,
   Cannot find anything on parents but Patrick appears to have rented the business on Waterside Street from Sir H. Bruce according to the 1911 census. I can also find 7 siblings for Catherine if you do not already have these.

My father's (Patrick Campbell Mc Laughlin) grandfather Patrick McLaughlin married Catherine Donnelly Campbell on the 4th Oct 1887 in Coleraine. Catherine's parents were Thomas Campbell and Jane Templeton. Some of Caterine's possible siblings are:

Hi

Have you looked in any of the old newpapers?  As a Wine & Spirit dealer Patrick would have to be licensed.  These applications were usually placed before the local Quarter Sessions and would have been recorded in the local newspapers.  Some mention if the licenses have been agreed or denied. Even a change of licensee should be recorded ie. if the license was passed from father to son.

Hi Turnerchimes, I haven't looked in the newspapers yet, can I do this online. I hope to go to the national archives over the next couple of weeks - will they have them there?

I don't think the NA would have them.  You would need to access them through the British Library (or is there an N.I equivalent?).  You can view old newspapers online but I think it is some sort of subscription or pay-per-view.  There may be a thread here on Roots somewhere in the lexicon.  Also, some UK libraries allow you to have free access to papers like the Times Archives using your library card and a pin number.

When you search try a search for "Coleraine Quarter Sessions" this should pull up quite a bit. (I am assuming it's Coleraine given the information you have posted).  Good luck

Copies of Coleraine newspapers in Coleraine Library (Chronicle and Constitution are the main ones)- not available online. Newspaper Library in Belfast also have some local papers but not sure which ones from Coleraine.

The Belfast News Letter contains reports on Coleraine Quarter Sessions (and reports on lots of other Quarter Sessions in Ireland). I've just had a quick look now.  However, local papers are better if you can get access them!
