LUNDY/LOWE
« on: Wednesday 29 September 10 14:39 BST (UK) »
Hi
Am looking for any information on the following family:
John Frankish LUNDY and Celina Florence Low ( not sure of the spelling - on marriage certificate it is spelt LOW)
John was born in Natal and married Celina ( born Barberton) on the 17 January 1887 in Barberton,South Africa. I think John's father was John Lundy and his mother Elizabeth Frankish? One of their son's was my gg grandfather Albert Arthur Edward Lundy. He married Thyra Alice Ekstedt. She was his first wife and had my grandmother, Thyra Sigrid Lundy Day.

No one seems to know any family history about the Lows or the Lundys. Some say they came from Ireland and others from Yorkshire?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Kind regards
Amanda

Thanks for your replies. Have just found out that David Low was Celina's dad. He had a mine in Low's Creek ( named after him) and named his mine " Lily mine" after his youngest daughter.

Thanks again

Hi Amanda

My great grandmother was Charlotte Borrow Low, who married William Robert Jones.  She was a sister to Celina Low.  They had another sister, Janet, who lived in Kaapschehoop and married Harry Elton.  From various baptismal records I have found the names of other siblings, James Low and Alfred Low.   Lily Violet Low married Walter Watkins and lived in Pilgrims Rest.  Do you know who their mother was?  I think she may have been Irish.

Hi Amanda/SGJ.
I think the Alfred LOW you mention is my great grandfather. Alfred LOW married Martha Paulina BECKING, however she died in 1905. They had many (8 from memory) children, including my grandmother Ann Thornton LOW, who I believe was the youngest.
Did Alfred remarry after Martha died, as it appears he died in 1947?
I'd love any information you may like to share about David Ireland LOW and his immediate family.
I'd also love to be in contact with descendants as my father was orphaned when Ann died in 1940 of "natural causes" aged 37. Interestingly he was never adopted or at least taken in by family.
Thanks in advance
