Park Family-Stockton on Tees
« on: Wednesday 29 September 10 12:43 BST (UK) »
Currently at the end of my tether trying to find a JOHN PARK who married a MARY Brown @ Kirby Wiske, North Yorkshire in 1790.

One option may be the John Brown born 5/4/1770 at Stockton on Tees to Thomas x Ann Park-family details below:

•PARK, Catherine - Thomas + Ann, 27 Mar 1768
•PARK, Dorothy - Thomas + Ann (27 Apr 1777), 26 Jun 1777
•PARK, Dorothy - Thomas, 6 Jul 1775
•PARK, Elizabeth - Thomas + Ann, 14 Apr 1773
•PARK, John - Thomas + Ann, 5 Apr 1770
•PARK, Martha - Thomas + Ann (4 Aug 1780), 26 Oct 1780
•PARK, Mary - William, 13 Apr 1773

Does anyone have any information in connection with the John Park mentioned above, please?

Hi and welcome
Are there any other details on the 1790 marriage?  Witnesses for instance?   They are often family members.  Did this couple survive to census time?   What did they name their children?  Are you just looking at the IGI to find a baptism for John?    As it is not full coverage there may be many other baptisms in parishes that are not on it.  If you can tell us how you got back to this particular couple it may help us find him for you.

I posted this comment, without additional details, in the hope that someone may have had a direct connection to this Stockton on Tees PARK family.

A little while ago, I saw a post re PARKS at Blackwell and directed those queries to a Canadian relative who was able to assist. I had hoped someone may have been able to help on a similar basis.

The Blackwell PARKS will inevitably arrive at this marriage and the following may help:

John Park married Mary Brown 16/5/1791 at Kirby Wiske.
Witnesses were Ralph Longthorne and Thomas Sturdy.

In the register, John Park is described as “in the Parish of Well” and Mary Brown “as of this Parish”(KW).  I am unable to trace a “suitable” Mary Brown at Kirby Wiske; similarly I have no firm contenders for the title of John Park.

Their children were:

1-   Jane-1792 @ Nosterfield
2-   John-1795 @ West Tanfield
3-   William-1797 @ Croft
4-   Thomas1799@ Croft
5-   Sarah -1802@ Croft
6-   Anne-1805 @ Croft
7-   George – 1807 @ Croft
8-   James- 1810 @ Croft

How frustrating.  The trouble with the mention of a parish in marriage registers, as I'm sure you realise, is that it only means at the time of the marriage so they could have originated from anywhere.  Are there suitable baptismal candidates in the wider area?

Have amassed numerous,  North Yorks Park's over the years and have been able to steer several families in America in the right direction.
Extensive searches by two cousins, and myself, have resulted in zero!
