Budd Family, Meon Valley
« on: Wednesday 29 September 10 09:37 BST (UK) »
Hi All, looking to find ancestry details on John Budd of East Meon born 1792 and married Charlotte Waller. John was my several X great grandfather. I have possible parents as John Budd 1740 and Elizabeth Thomas plus John Budd 1710 father of John Budd (1740) but nothing concrete. Any assistance appreciated. I have the line from there to present day and am happy to exchange info. Thanks, Dan

Just to confuse us: Olive Budd c 1761 married Thomas Digweed in Colmore 3 Nov 1783 - they would have been my 4xgt grandparents.
Have you looked at:http://www.mygreens.co.uk ?  Enough East Meon  Budds to keep you occupied for a while.
I will dig deeper.

Hi, thanks for that, I'd forgotten all about that but somewhere I have all of the data in a spreadsheet. Only downside to it is that it doesn't go back too far. Cheers, Dan

Hi

i may have some information regarding the Budd family of East Meon.  it took a while to assemble, and trawling through the census as they came out. i would be interested to know your connection, to the John and Charlotte Budd marriage.  There was a Budd reunion a few years ago in East Meon, organised by Mr Miller, a great success, with various branches represented.

as you are aware there were a number of Budd family's in the area at the time, and it is quite confusing. the break through came through for me in the census. (1871)

john budd appears as head of a rather large family in the 1841 census. Johns FIRST wife Charlotte has already died by 1841, . John is living with his 6 children AND a farm servant Mary Eade.

John Budd (widower) marrys Mary Ann Eade nov 22nd 1841 in St Mary's Portsea. More than a coincidence. i am related to John via his second marriage.

if we return to the parish register, john and elizabeth have 5 children, (our John's parents)not all live to adult hood. around the same time a Richard and Ann Budd also have a son, John.  How to get the right John ??

Elizabeth Budd East Meon chr 27 may 1787, death may 30 1787
Elizabeth Budd East Meon chr 25 mar 1790.-
John Budd chr 6 aug 1792, died 1871 The Stroud.
Thomas Budd chr feb 1795
Mary Budd ?

1871 Census
Elizabeth Budd aged 81 unmarried is staying with her sister-in-law Mary Ann Budd, in East Meon.

so if we assume that John has recently died, and his sister has come to stay with family, then we know that the John Budd we want has to have had a sister called Elizabeth born 1790 !! This was a break through for me i had been waiting for .  with the census going on line i then did some other research, and it appears Elizabeth never married and worked in London as a cook.  Thomas the other brother i beleive went to Stoke Damerel near Devon port, as a Baker, in 1851 he is listed aged 56, born 1795 East Meon. he does have a family, one boy one girl but up until 1901 census they do not appear to marry so the line finishes there.

i do have more info, so let me know your line and i will trawl through my bits n bobs.

Hi all,

First post on here, so apologies if I mess it up!

John Budd (father possibly Giles, b. 1685), who I have born in Steep in 1727, I think was my 7 x great grandfather, through his daughter Elizabeth (born in Ropley in 1753).

Similarly, on a different side of the family, am a direct descendent of the Budds of West Tisted, including William Budd, 1707-1772, buried in the Church there.

Any thoughts or connections appreciated,

Cheers!

JT

Hello all, thanks for your replies, apologies for the delay in coming back as I lost my username & password.
East Meon (Sam) : 100% the same John that I'm related to, my grandfather Fred was the great grandson of Jeremiah Budd (1832), one (the 8th) of John and Charlottes 10 children. You're from the same line ?
JohnTanner1979: Probable, I have John 1792, John C1740 and John C1710. If you look at : http://www.communigate.co.uk/hants/buddfamilyofhampshire/index.phtml i don't think the site is manned presently but holds some good information.
Best to all and happy hunting !
Dan
