Dunwich LU Request - BUTCHER
« on: Tuesday 28 September 10 13:13 BST (UK) »
Hi folks,

Could anybody please search the parish records for me for the christening of John Butcher (b. 1791 ish) in Dunwich (or for any Baxters in that area I guess!). On the 1861 census John is living in Blundeston with wife Abigail (don't have any details about her either!) and daughter and son in law (Samuel Baxter).

Best wishes,

John

The IGI has this submitted marriage entry but I don't know whether it fits with birthyears of children etc - John's birthyear is way out

Hello John,

Welcome to Rootschat

Unfortunately you are in Look Up Offers and you need to be in Look Up Requests.

Will ask for you to be moved - I have a tenuous link (so far) to Baxter and they were in Covehithe/South Cove parishes.  So it would appear that they like to hug the Suffolk coastal parishes  ;D

Pat ...
Every time I find an ancestor,
I have to find two more!

SUFFOLK - Pendle, Stygall, Pipe, Fruer, Bridges, Fisk, Bellamy, Sparham - all link to  Framlingham
DERBY - Bridges and Frost (originally Framlingham/Parham)
NOTTINGHAM - Lambert & Selby
BERKSHIRE/then Hammersmith LDN - Fulker
LDN/MDX - Murray, Clancy, Broker, Hoskins, Marsden, Wilson, Sale

GGfather Michael Wilson born Cork, lived Fulham London - moved to Boston USA 1889, what happened next?

Hi John

Have checked the Dunwich registers and found the following for you:

Baptisms:

Butcher - John, son of William & Martha (late Martha Boast, spinster) on 16 November 1786
Butcher - John, son of William & Martha (late Martha Boast, spinster) on 14 January 1787

Can't see a matching burial for the first John, so I assume this was a private baptism followed by one in Church a few months later. (I say "in Church". Dunwich didn't actually have a church at this time.)

Burials:

Butcher - Martha, married woman, on 6th (I think!) of May 1807
Age at death not recorded or so feint it's illegible

Butcher - William, widower age 73 years, on 27 May 1814

Marriage:

The IGI has this marriage record (a submitted record, not controlled extraction):

William Butcher and Martha Boast
Married 10 October 1768 at Weybread, Suffolk
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Surnames include: FRANCIS in Glamorgan / LANWORN in Monmouth / BLACKMAN, RUSSELL in Sussex / KEARSEY, BARLTROP in Essex / TOOKEY in Leicestershire / LASHMORE in London and Kent / GOODWIN, PASQUE, ATTOE, FISK, QUINTON, RUFFLES, CULLINGFORD and others in Suffolk / MAYOSS anywhere anytime! / GILMORE in Belfast
