With the close cut hairstyle with its side parting, clean face, cut and style of the jacket with its high lapels and ticket pocket at the hip I would suggest that this image was taken between 1885 & 1903 when Richard Stuart Brown was operating as a photographer in Edinburgh and using the form of address on his stock as Broughton Street. After Richard's death in 1903 his son, Robert, took over the running of the business and the title and address on the card would have changed accordingly. I would even chance my arm and shorten the dateline down to being somewhere between 1885 and 1888 as I can not see any evidence of a watch hole on the waist coat as his Albert appears to be taken through a button hole.
