James Williamson born @1815
« on: Sunday 26 September 10 15:16 BST (UK) »
Hi

I wonder if someone can help with tracing the birth of the above person, my gr. x 3 grandfather. According to the 1851 census he was born in Ashby, Leics 1815/16  but when I checked on IGI there are no births shown for Ashby itself. There is a James chr. 18/1/1815 at Measham & a couple more born at Whitwick in 1815 & 1820.
Is it likely that someone born in these places would give Ashby as their birthplace?
Does anyone have access to these registers & be able to provide more info please?

Thank you
Carol

hi carol,
whitwick and measham were both sub-districts of the Ashby registration district so either could be the ones!!

Hi Diddy

Thanks for the reply. I am taking a punt on it being the Measham birth as on further investigation I have discovered that a James Williamson married Mary Chamberlain in 1815 & she was born at Measham.
Are you able to provide me with any more details of the birth i.e. father's occupation etc. or do I need to post another enquiry?

Thank you
Carol

Greeting’s …….

Unfortunately…..
The records Office is closed this week for their annual stock take.

But I’ll gladly see what I can find out as soon as they reopen the following week.

Mike

Many thanks for the info. The IGI record is wrong re the 18/1/1815 birth  as it lists the father as James & not John. I shall carry on & see if I can get anywhere with this line.

Thanks
Carol
