They were catholics and George King was in the 47th then 49th Regiment of Foot in Ireland from 1844 until 1954  when they went off to the Crimea

A marriage for a Catholic couple would not be included in the civil index before 1864 - unless they married in a registry office or a Church of Ireland Church.

RC records for part of Co. Cork, mostly west county and city, are available free at : www.irishgenealogy.ie

Do you know which barracks in Co. Cork George served ?
There were several in the city, plus others in Co. Cork - e.g. Fermoy, Mitchelstown etc

Mike, per the 1881 census Sarah Jane was born in Armagh circa 1833.  Looks like "Crafen Island" ? Perhaps someone can help identify the parish. It might be possible to approach the problem from that direction

Could this be an entry made on her behalf?  I'm wondering if accent played a part and Craigavon, Ireland was mistaken entered as Crafen Island?
Ireland, Co Antrim: Kerr; Hollinger; Forsythe; Moore
Ireland, Co Louth: Carson; Leslie
Ireland, Co Kerry: Ferris
Scotland, Perthshire/Glasgow:  Stewart

It must be something like that. There aren't a lot of islands in Armagh.
