Thanks Redroger

Wow, I didn't realise that there were that few Scuffhams around.

It was James William that moved to Yorkshire sometime between 1890 and 1894. He was a licensed cab driver. His wife Sarah and at least one of her brothers came as well. JW and Sarah had at least 7 children. One of them, James Edward is my OH greatgrandfather. He had 12 children.

OHs Granny knew that her grandfather came from Lincolnshire but didn't know where exactly. A quick check on the IGI shows Scuffhams (and variants) around Fishtoft/Boston well back into the 1700s.

Do you know where I would find the parish records? It looks like I'm going to be busy   :)
Aynsley - Northumberland
Armstrong - Durham
Bell, Beaumont, Sunderland - Yorkshire
Scuffham - Linconshire and Yorkshire
Smith - Northumberland

Almost certainly Geoff. I would expect a Y chromosome DNA test to be almost unanimous in grouping them into a single family unit, excepting the few unofficial ones in every surname of course!
