Hi Mandie P,
My Grandma was born in 1917, so I am beginning to think now
with your additional information that the timeframe probably
does not fit, as the 'unknown' definately looks younger than your
Aunt Doris. Never the less, it is a wonderful photo that you have
shared with me as I now know at the very least what she would
have looked like in her uniform.
Thanks so much for all the information.
Kind regards
Alyson123

Quay St Ended just behind the notice in the centre, it had just been demolished to make way for the new garage - County Garage about 1963.

Hi, does anyone have a photo of the Freemasons Arms in Quay Street, think it could be No 37. A relative lived there in 1920

No.37 looks about right ... you can see it clearly on the 1866 1:500 map here http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=297147,518107

I don't think I've everseen a photo of it. :(

If you "do" Facebook, there are lots of old photo's of Whitehaven here http://www.facebook.com/groups/151311261559292/photos/

and a growing number here http://www.facebook.com/groups/YESTERYEARSOFWHITEHAVEN/photos/

but none of the Freemason's Arms.
