Quay Street Whitehaven
« on: Thursday 23 September 10 23:06 BST (UK) »
I am hoping that someone might be able to point me in the right direction
to any photographs of Quay Street in Whitehaven, before the houses were
demolished and replaced with car parks.
I have just received the death cert of my 3x gt grandfather John Doran
being a master mariner, lived at 13 Quay Street at the time of his death
in 1872.
Any advice gratefully received.

Hi,

This site has some excellent old photos of Whitehaven, unfortunately you can not tell on all of them where they were taken but there is a contact you could ask about them.

Thanks for your help Sharon, some wonderful photos of Whitehaven,
but alas no Quay Street.
I wonder if anyone has one of the 'Whitehaven Past' books published
and if Quay Street is in there. I would'ny mind buying one if I was sure
Quay St is included.

Quay St Ended just behind the notice in the centre, it had just been demolished to make way for the new garage - County Garage about 1963.

That's a great picture jeffbubble!

The dockside looks cleaner than I remember it when I used to visit.

Here's a similar viewpoint from StreetView http://tinyurl.com/3xu59h9
