which newspaper ?

I have found a woman sent to prison for two months ,All I
know is she lived in:"Cutsyke, Glass Houghton" Castleford
yorkshire, appeared in court <WHICH> and on the 14/oct 1878
given two months sentence, What newspaper would this
appear in , how would I look for this this piece of news

If you live in the UK and belong to a public library, you may have access to the 19th Century British  Newspaper collection via your online reference library. (If not, I understand that you can join Lancashire Libraries online even if you don't live in Lancashire).

The collection includes The Leeds Mercury, The York Herald, and The Sheffield and Rotherham Independent, any of which might have reported the case you are looking for.

A quick search for 'Cutsyke' suggests that the hearing might have been  at Pontefract Petty Sessions.

       as you suggest, and Pontefract does
       sound the right place for court
        matters, as I know that was the main
        place for registering, births, deaths, etc

Castleford had its own magistrates court and the local paper is The Pontefract & Castleford Express. Still with offices in both towns.
