Help with NSW Death Req.
« on: Thursday 23 September 10 10:01 BST (UK) »
Hi

I need a bit of help with a death in NSW. I am unable to get to my local library for a few weeks but would like to know if there are details available for a death.

Reg No. 9606/1898
Surname BOOTH
First Name ANN
Father WILLIAM
Mother HANNAH
District GRETA

Is it possible to get a maiden name and age without buying the certificate? Would like to confirm it is the right person before I purchase the certificate.

Thanks

James & Mary THORNETT [BROWN] from Oxfordshire/Cheshire, emigrated to Adelaide in 1876
John & Alice THORNETT [CARPENTER] from Oxfordshire, emigrated to Adelaide in 1877

Unfortunately, with the NSW BDM, the only way to get more than is available from the item listing (which you obviously have) is to pay for the certificate. I have some "spares" of certificates I bought to check, and found they were not relevant to my family search.

OK, it costs a tiny bit, but the result might be valuable and - worst case is that you end up with a certificate you don't need.

Hang on to it, you might be able to help someone with it later.
Cheers
John

Thanks John

I didn't know if extra information was available or not. Fingers crossed it is the right person!

If you are purchasing certificates you may be aware that using a transcription agent is cheaper and quicker.

Different State BMD certificates have different pieces of information on certificates.  A list of the various items is in the Australia Resources section of Rootschat.

Thanks JM

I was actually just searching that website but hadn't got to that cutting yet. Thanks for saving some searching work!

The year matches, her husband died in Wodonga in 1892 and she may have moved to Greta with a daughter I haven't found yet.

I have ordered the certificate tonight, looks like a long three weeks wait.

EDIT: Just found a story about Ann Booth in Greta in 1887 which says she is a married woman living away from her husband.

Are you talking about Greta, NSW or VIC?

What was Ann's husbands name who died in Wodonga, VIC?

Greta NSW. Her husband was John Booth and he died in Wodonga in 1892, on his death certificate it states he lived in NSW for 12 years.

The missing daughter is Jane Booth b.1848.

After a bit more searching around and cross checking I think it may be the right person. From Ann's wedding certificate I knew her fathers name was William and they were married in West Auckland, Durham.

I have searched through the parish records for West Auckland and found a marriage in 1810 (Ann was born in 1824 and her sister was born in 1814) between a William DOWSON and a Hannah BOOTH.

If it is the right person marrying someone with the same surname as your mothers maiden name is demands a bit of extra research!
