Thomas Clarke of Waterford?
« on: Wednesday 22 September 10 07:23 BST (UK) »
I only have vague details, and need to know if Thomas Clarke was born in Waterford. It would have been approx late 1870's- 1880's. Or possibly it was his father name unknown in 1840's. At some stage Thomas married Elizabeth Wilson and is believed to have gone to Mexico, although they returned in 1914.
I know the details are sketchy, but also know what great detectives you are.

                              Thank you

There are lots of Thomas Clarkes born in Ireland but narrowing it down to Waterford and 1870-1889 brings up only 1- a Thomas Clarke who died a short while later although there is a Henry Thomas Clarke born 1883.

You can search the civil registration index online (free) but without a father's name, exact birthdate or exact place of birth it may be very difficult to find the information you are looking for.

If Thomas married in Ireland the marriage certificate should list father's name and occupation (although if illegitimate father will probably not be listed).

The 1901 census shows only one Thomas Clark(e) in Waterford- a tea agent- but he's listed as a visitor in the household. Do you know your Thomas' religion?

I am also researching a Thomas Clarke (father Edmund Clarke from ireland) who was born in Witham, Essex 1882. They then moved to Leeds via Market Harborough. Thomas and his wife Elizabeth Wilson then went to live in Pachuca, Mexico where they had Edmund John Clarke  who is a relative of my wife, before returning to Leeds.

Is this the same person you are looking at?

It sounds like me but a reminder would be useful from Christine if she has my email address. Not made too much progress on the Clarke line and would appreciate any help. It was my wifes Grandfather who was born in Pachuca, Mexico and they returned home following the mexican revolution.

They returned home on the 20th June 1940 - you can see the ships passenger list on ancestry UK incoming passenger lists from Vera Cruz in Mexico to Plymouth on agermand registered ship the Ypiringa. If you google the ship you can see how it was involved in the Vera Cruz Incident where US invaded Mexico!

If Christine could email and remind me how she is connected that would be great.
