Finding a Grave in Ipswich
« on: Monday 20 September 10 21:16 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Does anybody know whether it would be possible to find which cemetary my great grandfather was buried in Ipswich.

His name was George Bolton, died in 1933 and lived in Bond Street, Ipswich.

Any help much appreciated

Ian

Hi,

Just saw your post as I was about to close.

Have a word with the Suffolk Record Office. You can get the number through an online search. If he was in the cemetary in Ipswich, they have a listing of burials. The only thing is that I'm not sure of dates, but they will advise.

Good luck

Julie

This is the way to do it as I have done this myself, they will provide you with information on where he is buried in the cemetery. If you want further information like date of death/burial then there is usually a small charge.
Bloomfield, Knights, Whitmore, Warner (Suffolk)
Hamlin (London, Yorkshire, Scotland, Suffolk)
Mattocks, Newick, Nutter, (Kent)
Mattocks (Staffs)

Trevor and Alan are correct, Ipswich Borough Council for the cemeteries.

Suffolk Record Office have parish records on fiche from the 1500s to approximately 1900.

Don't forget that after that date smaller parishes in the county are possibly still using their Registers, we only have about one wedding a year in our village, possibly one or two baptisms and half a dozen burials.

Pat ...

Every time I find an ancestor,
I have to find two more!

SUFFOLK - Pendle, Stygall, Pipe, Fruer, Bridges, Fisk, Bellamy, Sparham - all link to  Framlingham
DERBY - Bridges and Frost (originally Framlingham/Parham)
NOTTINGHAM - Lambert & Selby
BERKSHIRE/then Hammersmith LDN - Fulker
LDN/MDX - Murray, Clancy, Broker, Hoskins, Marsden, Wilson, Sale

GGfather Michael Wilson born Cork, lived Fulham London - moved to Boston USA 1889, what happened next?

I forgot to mention that Margaretta died in 1937.
Have you contacted Brian Macro on Ancestry?
In 1891 George Bolton the father was a widower and a sawyer living in Wetherden with his son Albert.

There were Bolton's who were wheelrights but they were living in the Dennington, Hoxne and Denham areas.
